Today I thought I would share with you a video that demonstrates how to create a quick and easy bohemian updo. It’s one of the long hair styles that features a French twist and is very classical looking – perfect for a wedding or similar formal event. The video is super short (only 3.5 minutes), so I recommend you give it a quick watch right now!
The first step is to create a deep part on the side of your head. Then take a section (a couple of inches back from your forehead) and split it into 3 individual sections. This will serve as the foundation for your French braid. Then begin the braiding process, moving toward the middle of the back of your head. Once the French braid is about even with your ear, stop. Then from that point on, braid the remainder of the hair in a normal fashion. Once the braids are complete, secure it near the end of the braid with an elastic hair band.
Next, starting at the temples and working back toward the center of the back of your head, take a section of hair on the right side of your head, and another one on the left side, and gently pull them backward. This will form a bit of a horse shoe shape. (NOTE: this is pretty tricky to describe in text so please watch the video for this part). Move the rest of your hair out of the way (secure if necessary). Then separate a small section of hair from the bottom of the horseshoe, and clamp it to the top of your head. Tease that section. Let the remainder down, and separate the top portion of the horse shoe shape. Then tease the section you just let down; the goal here is maximum volume on that section.
Then let down the hair that you previously clamped to the top of your head. Gather the teased section together and lift it up to create a pouf on top. Then secure the teased section using crisscrossed bobby pins. Then bring the braid over the bobby pins to hide them, and pin the braid to the center of the crisscrossed bobby pins to ensure maximum hold. Next, gather up the hair that is hanging down at the center of your neck, and form a ponytail. Split the pony into 2 sections and tease both sides. Then twist the 2 sides together and form them into a nice bun. Finally, pin the bun in place.
And that’s all there is to it! It’ll probably take 15-20 minutes or so until you get the hang of it, but once you get used to the technique I think it’ll be pretty painless. So the next time you’re jonesing for a bohemian bun, give this hair style a try. Good luck and have fun!
