There seems to be a misconception amongst some women that having pin straight hair can only be achieved at the expense of volume. Well, I’m here to tell you that it isn’t true! If you like super straight hair styles, you do not need to sacrifice volume. The video below shows how to do this & have the best of both worlds.
You will need a blow dryer, ceramic flat iron, a couple hair clips and a round brush. First, wash your hair and utilize a leave-in conditioner. Then, while your hair is still damp, spray on some Herbal Essence leave-in split end protector for long hair (this will help to soften your hair). Use a nickel-sized dab, and rub it into your hair while concentrating on the ends. Don’t use too much, otherwise your hair will look greasy.
Then take small (2-inch) sections of your hair, and brush the underside of each section with the round brush while curling the brush in a clockwise manner (see the video for a demo). Blow dry your hair as you do this. This brushing / drying technique will enhance the volume, and in fact it’s the key part of the entire process. It might be helpful to clip the rest of your hair out of the way while you’re doing this.
Next, separate your hair into two main parts (left and right), and use your flat iron to randomly straighten some of the ends of your hair. While using the flat iron, mimic the same curling technique that you used with the round brush in the previous step. Importantly, do not use the flat iron on all of your hair; only use it close to the ends, perhaps the final 30% or so of your hair. This will allow your ends to be straight without compromising the volume up top.
And that is all there is to it! As you can see, it’s a beautiful look that can add a flair of elegance to straight, long hair styles. And as an added bonus, this technique is super easy and takes less than 10 minutes to achieve. So, if you want long straight hair with lots of volume, give this technique a try. Methinks you’ll be happy you did!
