This 60s inspired half updo is suitable stylish for prom. To copy this look, start by blow-drying your tresses, using some silkening cream. Then section off the top half of your hair, from above your ears, in a diagonal following your jaw line.  

Either back comb your hair, or if its already suitably thick, just fix the hair into position with a strong grip and lots of hairspray. Complete the do by curling the ends of your hair gently.
