Wedding of the Year 2008

Had great fun at a family wedding in August - and not an updo in sight - both the bride and the bridesmaids wore their hair long, curled and down around their shoulders.

The photos are fabulous - with the wonderful Salisbury Cathedral in the background, what better setting could you want?

Why not donate your old prom dresses ?

In every town, there are dozens of Cinderellas who would love to go to the ball, but simply can't afford a dress .

The Chicago based Glass Slipper project was set up to allow people to donate their old dresses , shoes and accessories, to someone who can have their dream of going to the prom fulfilled.

At the end of the prom season, rather than let your dress gather dust or take up space in your wardrobe, why not get in touch with GlassSlipper.com and see how you can help someone elses dreams ?

One Tip for Your Skin this Summer

Have you ever looked at anyone who is over 40 and wondered where all their wrinkles came from?

What you may notice is that people who smoke or who have smoked for several years, can have older, more wrinkled skin. Also, anyone who loves sunbathing can often pay the price later on with ageing skin.

A simple way to help protect and look after you skin is to always wear a moisturiser which has at least an SPF15, to help prevent ageing and loss of elasticity. You may not notice the difference every day, but once you get to forty (the age where bits start to drop off!) you'll start to notice a difference between you and other women your age.

Don't forget to also put cream on your hands and neck, as these are areas of your skin which are also exposed to sunlight, that can show your age prematurely .

Treat Your Feet & Hands

It's a bit of a strange time of year in the UK - winter is on the way out, but spring hasn't yet arrived.

For those of us who need a bit of a boost, what could be better than treat your feet and hands to a little something - a pedicure or manicure.

For the first time I had a pedicure which involved a paraffin wax treatment - this involves the rather crazy process of dipping each foot into hot wax, which initially feels warm and then has a little more bite !

These are then wrapped so that the heat and wax can help to moisturise the skin - the heat draws the blood flow and helps to revitalise tired feet.

Once the wax is cooled it peels off in one "foot" and your feet are silky soft and healthy looking.

If you're looking for a pick me up during the winter months - this is the ideal treat for both you and your body.

Best Wedding Sites

Since last writing, we've had great news - my son Martin is going to be getting married later this year to the wonderful Sofia. Congratulations to you both.

So, here's a few of my favourite sites from browsing around on the net for informative, easy to use, interesting sites for brides-to-be:-

  • Confetti.co.uk - a classic site
  • My Wedding Favors - I return to this site again and again, it's so beautifully laid out, the items are so pretty and so very affordable
  • SarahsFlowers.co.uk - as a bride who had my own bouquet of silk flowers, I love them and still have my bouquet as a keepsake
  • www.squidoo.com/plussizeweddingdress - I'm a big fan of Squidoo, though not quite an addict. This site is a useful review of the options available to curvier brides.
  • WeddingMakeUpAndHair.com - Pam Wrigley is a beauty consultant and hair stylist specialising in wedding makeup and hair
  • http://weddingbellsblog.com -a wedding gowns blog which is full of beautiful pictures of wedding dresses and just enough text to keep you interested

These are just a few of my favorite bridal sites - I'm sure that as time goes on my future daughter-in-law may suggest a few too!

Happy New Year - Let's Get Winzy-cal

Just come across a cool new site that's got lots of fun. It's called Winzy Search  and you can search and win free prizes.

It also has some fun stuff and an easy way to invite friends - but, be warned, it could be addictive !

Get your Beauty Regime ready for 2008

As we enter a New Year, it's that time when we all thing of New Year's resolutions and think about changing the way that we do things for 2008.

If I have one tip for you this year it's to ensure that you use a moisturiser with a SPF factor of at least 15 - if you do this daily, you'll start to notice the difference between your own skin and others when you get to age 40 or more.

Whilst this may be a long time away for most readers, this simple regime can have you looking up to ten years younger than other women your age, once you get past that magical age - and all by simply investing in a good skin moisturiser.

If you're also looking at your diet and health regime for the New Year, check out Herbs MD for a wide range of cosmetics, supplements and womens health products.

Tips for Choosing Your Wedding Dress and Hairstyle

Every bride wants to look her best at the wedding reception. If you want to have the perfect wedding, there are many things you need to take into account. Below are some suggestions for selecting your wedding gown and hairstyle.

Finding a stunning dress is not an easy thing. Keeping the following tips in mind will save you time and energy.

Start searching for your gown early, generally speaking, six to eight months ahead of your wedding. Chances are that you will have your dress customized online. This takes three to four months. You also need to take time for alternations.

Opt for a style that compliments the wedding ceremony. For brides who are planning to have formal evening weddings, floor length gowns in traditional white and ivory are nice choices. It is also a great idea to wear a pair of elegant gloves. If you are going to have a casual or less formal wedding, a tea-length or shorter dress is a great option. It is suggested that you pick a short veil for your less formal wedding.

Choose a dress that flatters your body shape. Shopping with your trusted sister or friend will help you find a fabulous gown. Wedding dresses come in many different styles, like A-line, empire waist, ball gown and sheath. Go to bridal boutiques or department stores where you can enjoy a wide selection. If you are not sure about which one might look great on you, try them on and find the best. Additionally, select a style that you can walk in and bend comfortably.

Also consider your budget. You can pick from off-the-rack dresses and custom made styles. Ready-made gowns usually cost $250 and up. Jessica McClintock wedding dresses are moderately priced. While a simple custom-made gown costs about $750. You need to spend more money if you want a custom designer wedding dress.

After choosing your beautiful bridal gown, it is time to decide how to wear your hair. Selecting a hairstyle that is right for you is essential. Here are some useful tips.

Choose a style based on the style of your ceremony. If your wedding will be formal, pick formal hair like an updo. For brides who are planning to have a fairy tale wedding, wear your hair in a bun and select tiara or jeweled hair accessories to give you a fairytale look.

Select a hairstyle that compliments your face. Brides with oval faces should avoid bangs and having too much hair on the face. If you have a round face, hairstyles like an Audrey Hepburn updo can help to lengthen your face. For brides with square faces, pick wispy or layered hairstyles.

Pick one that matches your wedding dress. If your wedding gown is strapless, it is nice to have wisps or curls of hair falling onto the naked shoulders. For brides who have long flowing veils, wear a matching long and flowing hairstyle.

Keep the suggestions above in mind and you will find your perfect wedding dress and hairstyle. If you are shopping bridal dresses and wedding accessories online, Micweddingdresses.com is a great site where you can get the best deals.
