This is a short video about natural beauty tips that was entered as part of GE's
"Ecomagination" YouTube video challenge, which represented an effort to promote the use of the internet as a means
of sharing ideas and connecting with others, and to help get people to think and act more environmentally friendly.
A little about "Ecomagination, courtesy of Wikipedia:
In 2005 GE launched its "Ecomagination" initiative in an attempt to position itself as a "green"
company. GE is currently one of the biggest players in the wind power industry, and is developing new
environment-friendly products such as hybrid locomotives, desalination and water reuse solutions, and
photovoltaic cells. The company "plans to build the largest solar-panel-making factory in the U.S.," and has
set goals for its subsidiaries to lower their greenhouse gas emissions.
In this video, Michelle Phan shows us how to be environmentally friendly by curling our hair, using nothing but
water and scraps of cloth to achieve a true natural beauty (curling your hair with scraps of cloth is eco-friendly
because the cloth is reusable, and it requires no heat or electricity). So, if you're ready, watch the video now
and learn how to curl your hair using an old T-shirt.
To begin, you'll need an old T-shirt that you don't wear anymore, or may have been thinking
about throwing away (basically, be sure it is a shirt that you won't miss). You'll then need to cut or rip the
shirt into strips around 1/2 to 1 inch wide. Then, while your hair is damp, tie half of your hair up. Starting with
your first strip, wrap it around a section of your hair, roll it up, and tie it into place. You will then continue
to do the same for all of your hair (wrap it, roll it up, tie it, secure it into place, repeat). This process will
get easier with practice, and you’ll soon find yourself getting it done in no time.
After all of your hair is rolled into place, just let it air dry naturally (no need for a blow dryer). Once your
hair is dried and ready, carefully untie each strip and unroll to find your new, gorgeous curls. Continue to untie
the strips until you've removed all of them. If your hair ends up too curly, simply run your fingers through your
hair to help loosen the curls.
Now that you've mastered these natural beauty tips, you have an easy, all natural, and
energy free way to curl your hair, all while using recycled materials. And the best part is that this method of
curling can be done without causing any damage to your hair, like some of the more "convenient" methods.
Once you have taken this step towards being more environmentally friendly, if you need an accessory for your
newfound curls, feel free to visit Mother Nature's closet, and pick some fresh, pretty flowers that you can wear in
your hair to add some color to your already beautiful, eco-friendly curls. I hope you have enjoyed this video on
natural beauty tips, and I look forward to continually sharing helpful videos, as I find them.
