Read the box!

Whatever it says about colouring your hair, read it, even the small print.

The first time I colored my own hair, I not only got stains all over the bathroom and clothes, but brown and unsightly finger nails that didn't go away for weeks! 

I did at least try it on a small patch of skin beforehand as I have sensitive skin and didn't want to end up with a burned scalp after applying my new hair color.

So, read the box - follow the instructions - and, if in doubt, don't!
