Backview of soft hairstyles for long, curly hair
There are few things more elegant and
romantic than long curly hairstyles. Even if you have bone-straight hair you can create one of these dynamic
looks with the right styling products and techniques.
You may or may not be aware that one of the hottest looks in
Hollywood right now is the half up/half down long curly hair style. If you are wondering how to do curly hair
styles like those you see on your favorite celebrity, you will be happy to know that most times they are not
difficult to achieve. It does take a little time but the results are fabulous.
Prepare the Hair
Long curly hairstyles are usually easiest
done when you’re working with second-day hair. If you need to wash your hair or if you naturally have very
straight or fine hair, the right products can help thicken, provide texture, and offer hold. When you blow
dry your hair, apply a mouse or a light gel and scrunch it a bit. It’s also a good idea to dry partly while
your head is upside-down to add volume to the roots.
Instructions
If you want to know how to do curly hair in a half updo, you
will need a half-inch curling iron and a hair clip.
- Pull the top half of your hair up into a clip so you can
work on the bottom half.
- Using your curling iron, create curls in your hair, one inch
at a time. After you get the entire bottom half done, spray lightly with hairspray and allow them to
cool.
- When you move on to the top section of any long curly
hairstyles, you can either curl these pieces the same way, or you can use a straightening iron for most
of the top and the bangs and then flip the ends or create curls near the ends of each strand. This will
depend on the look you want at the top of your head.
- Once the curls are completely cool, finger fluff them. At
this point, you can tease the top of your hair as needed and define your part as well. Side-swept bangs
always look great with this look!
- Now, to create this long curly hair style, you can either
pull the sides back and pin them, or pull most of your hair into a barrette, clip or elastic at the nape
of your neck while allowing the curls to cascade down your back. Alternatively, a side ponytail is a look
that has become quite popular as well.
- If needed, apply a pomade to bangs or to curls for
definition. You may want to also apply a shining product before you apply a final spritz of hairspray.
Keep in mind, long curly hair styles are not meant to be stiff, so use a flexible or light-hold
hairspray. Flowers, tiaras, headbands and other accessories are always welcome with these
looks.
As you can hopefully see, it’s not difficult to learn how to do curly hair. It just takes a little knowledge, and
of course, practice. Have fun!
