Choosing the Right Hair Extensions
If you’re choosing to opt for
hair extensions for the first time, there’s a few things that you should know before you go to your
hairdresser.
Types of Hair Extensions
There are several types of hair that can be used, these include monofibre, human hair and other natural
hairs.
Although they sound great, human hair extensions (e.g. Cinderella) are actually less likely to stay attached to your
hair and have to be attached with very strong glue that requires strong solvents to remove it.
Just imagine what that’s going to do to your own hair!
Also, human hair is often imported from third world countries and may have been dyed to match western hair, so has
already lost some of it’s condition.
In
comparison, monofibre has been designed to act and look like human hair without the problems of split ends, fly away tendencies and
other problems.
In
fact, monofibre performs better than natural hair when used for extensions and will allow you to do just about anything you would normally do
– sit out in the sun, go swimming – without any of the problems that can happen with other types of hair (like falling out at the most
inconvenient moment!).
Are Extensions Right for You ?
Extensions can give you a radically new look within hours - if you want to make a big change to the way you look, this
is an effective though not cheap way to achieve it.
Decide whether you prefer monofibre or natural (human) extensions. Fusion extensions are designed to
look like your natural hair and should last for a long time.
Check out www.markglenn.com/fashiongallery.htm for some cool before and after pictures - including some very creative uses of the
extension technique .
For a quicker, more affordable , approach, clip on or pin on hair pieces can give a great look for a
special occasion, such as a party or prom .
If
you're still unsure how to choose - find someone who you know already uses them and ask where they get them done.
There's nothing like personal recommendation to give you confidence to try something
new.
If you're
thinking of trying some DIY extensions - be sure you know how to apply them, if in doubt, check out local salons - it may be possible to
ruin your hair condition if you get it wrong.

Hair Care after
Extensions
Make sure you listen to the advice given to you ! You may need to abstain from washing your hair for a period of time, whilst the glue
takes effect.
Check what products you can safely use when washing and styling your hair - also you may be advised to wash in
cool, not hot, water.
Ask if you're not sure about whether you can use your current brush and product range, far better safe than
sorry.
