Traditions of wearing a Wedding Veil

The only occasion most woman will wear a veil is on their wedding day. 

It is also thought that the tradition of the veil covering the face symbolises the brides modesty and the grooms lifting of it is said to symbolise that two have become one .

The popularity of the veil is thought to have started when George Washingtons aide, Major Lewis, saw his bride to be standing behind a filmy curtain and expressed to her how beautiful she appeared.  She then chose to wear a veil for her wedding - the rest, as they say, is history.

Whatever the truth, there is something mystical about a veiled bride walking down the aisle and a wonder to the moment that the groom lifts the filmy fabric so that he can see her face.

It's a myth that veils only look good with long hair - this picture of a young bride shows how effective a simple, short veil can be.

You'll find veils in a variety of lengths and colors - commonly in white or cream , but your dressmaker can probably create one in a color of your choosing. 

Try on different lengths to see which one looks best with your dress, also try fixing them at the front, top and back of your hair to see what looks right for you.

Bridal Tiaras & Headpieces

Tiaras have been worn by royalty for hundreds of years - they're now popular for weddings, proms and for crowning the beauty pageant queen.

You can be quite creative with your hairstyle for wearing a tiara - it works well if you wear your hair long and down, with an updo hairstyle, or the popular half updo.

If you are on a budget, you can buy cheap tiaras designed for younger girls at the shopping mal and stores similar to Walmart.

If your budget is a little more generous, you may wish to consider some of the beautiful offerings from Swarovski, which come in several designs and incorporate the famous Swarovski crystal.

For unique styles - try handmade beaded designs by local jewellers or artists. 

You may wish to consider buying matching jewelery and accessories - such as a necklace or earrings to match - this may cost less than you think and be very effective in making you feel like you really are the princess in the eyes of your husband-to-be .
