I have been looking around the Internet the past few days for different
varieties of braid hairstyles that I could try. The great part about braids is that they offer a ton of flexibility, so you'll never be stumped
for hair ideas again. Luckily, I found an excellent video
that demonstrates how to braid hair as part of a half up, half down hairstyle.
So if you’ve been searching for stunning braided hairstyles to try for your next formal event, keep reading and
check out the embedded video below.
Step by Step Process for Half Up, Half Down Braid Hairstyles
In order to achieve the look (for this as well as pretty much all varieties of braided
hairstyles), you’ll need some standard hair supplies such as a large-barreled curling iron (1.5 inches), hairspray,
bobby pins, a round hair brush, and some mini clear electric hair bands. Of course the first step is to
thoroughly brush your hair to eliminate tangles and knots. Next, section the hair at the crown. You
have some flexibility on this part of the process – it really depends on the natural direction your hair
flows. In the video, she has side bangs so she works on the opposite side. If you don’t have bangs, you
will simply braid the front. If this isn’t making sense to you, check out the video.
Then take a section of hair on the side you’re working on, and start braiding until you are
about halfway down. Again, the video does not go into a lot of detail regarding how to braid hair, so refer
to other resources online if you need help with this part. Once the braid has reached the middle of the hair
section, secure it with a mini elastic hair band. Then take individual pieces of your braid and gently pull
them out to add texture and body. Refer to the video for a demo. This pulling tactic can be used for
pretty much all varieties of braid hairstyles, so it’s a good technique to get the hang of.
Next, braid a section of hair on the opposite side of where you created
the first braid. Then do the exact same thing as you did for the first braid – go halfway down, secure
the end with a mini hair band, and utilize the aforementioned pulling technique to add volume. Then take
the first braid and wrap it around your head, securing at the back. Then take the other braid and wrap
it around, securing it over top of the first braid, and secure it. If any pieces are hanging out,
carefully tuck them under the braided section so they are hidden from view.
Finishing Off Your Braided Hair Style
The final step to create this and similar braided hairstyles is to curl the remaining hair
that is hanging down. Do the curling in 1-inch sections, holding each curl for 20-30 seconds. Then
apply some hairspray to keep everything in place all day long. And that’s it!
Really, once you learn how to braid hair efficiently and effectively, braid hairstyles like this one will be an
absolute breeze to create. If you have any other awesome braided hairstyles that you love, please leave
