How to Create Curly Updos with Masses of Curls

Curly hairstyles for prom never seem to
lose their appeal. They can be soft, romantic and carefree, or defined and sizzling, making them perfect for
any female after any look. Curly updos are also extremely popular because when done properly, they can often
hold their style longer than straight hair can. The extra texture created with product and curling helps to
hold the updo so you don’t have to be concerned with losing your look because you spent all night on the
dance floor.
Sculpted Curls
If you have hair that is medium-length or longer, you can create
gorgeous sculpted curls for an extremely elegant look. This curly updo is best achieved if you begin with
your hair smooth and straight. If you have naturally wavy or curly hair, use a straightening product and blow
dryer in small sections with a round ceramic brush.
Once your hair is completely dry, you will
use a straightening iron to smooth it. Work with one inch sections from your roots to the ends. The goal of
these curly hairstyles for prom is to play on the created texture – therefore bubbles or waves in the hair
just won’t do.
Hot rollers are the easiest way to create large barrel curls,
but if you have an extra-large curling iron, this will work too. The top of your hair is going to be flat so
if you use a curling iron, you don’t need to curl up to the root.
Using a comb, pull your hair into a ponytail at the crown of
your head. You may choose to create a side part or even a crisscrossed part when you do this. Now, working
with one inch sections create large curls and pin in place. These look best if there is no distinct pattern;
simply shape them in different ways. Spray and add a piece of hair jewelry, decorative barrette or comb, and
you’re finished.
French Twist Curly Updos
Love the look of a French twist but want to
include curls in your updo? If so, this is the perfect look for you! You will begin creating this curly updo
by pulling all of your hair back to the nape of your neck and twisting. Now, typically if you were creating a
French twist you would tuck the ends in and roll, but you won’t be doing that here. You want the ends of your
hair to fall forward on the top of your head; pin or clip the roll in place.
Using a one inch curling iron or smaller, curl all the hair on the top of your head in ringlets towards your face
and allow some to cascade around your face on the sides as well. These curly hairstyles for prom are fairly easy to
do and look remarkable from every angle.
