1970s Fashion Trends & 70s Hair Styles

With some of the fashions and 70s hair styles back on the catwalk this year, it wouldn't be a surprise to see retro seventies hair styles back in too.

The seventies was the era of punk, short spikey punk hairstyles were all the rage!  It was also a time of some strange fashion trends!

If you're going to a 70's party cute punk hair do's are a great idea and so easy to create.  You'll find fancy dress stores will have wigs, or you can buy a hair color to add striking stripes or zigzags .

Otherwise, try long hair (for men) and flared trousers or bell bottoms as they were known.

Women's styles in the seventies included the bob and shag hairstyles were also in vogue as they were easy to maintain and create.  Look for archive images of Farrah Fawcett to get idea of just how big hair was! 

Model Jerry Hall epitomised the glamour of this era.

Dig around in charity or thrift shops for some platform shoes (which have strangely been back in fashion) to complete the look.

If you're off to a fancy dress party, it's easy to re-create the "cool"  hairstyles of the 1970's.

Do be careful if you're adding color, we've heard of people who've had bad experiences using food coloring which they thought would wash straight out ... one blonde young man had to live with pink hair for several weeks. Take care when using color to achieve authentic 1970s hair styles.

However, using gel when creating 1970s hair styles can create some pretty amazing looks - get creative with a black bin liner and some safety pins and enjoy!
