50s Hairstyles & 1950s Fashion Trends
The fifties saw the birth of Rock 'n' Roll and the baby boom was at its height.
The 1950s was characterised by a recovery from wartime rationing and the beginning of enjoying
fashion once again.
This fifties era is back in fashion with celebrities such as Amy Winehouse sporting a beehive, hair salons
across the country are experiencing a surge of interest in women wanting similar hairstyles.
Rock & Roll Daily called it "most influential rock & roll hairdo", the Independent called it a
"beehive with attitude", and one young woman thought it looked as if she had an octopus on her head! (Yahoo
answers).
Whatever people think, it certainly is getting her attention, even if it is just the massize size of it.

50s Hairstyles
Key styles for the 50's were the ponytail, beehives (epitomised by Dusty Springfield) and the
introduction of the perm (or permanent wave).
Women got through plenty of hairspray or hair lacquer and endured the agonies of backcombing their hair, all for
the sake of beauty!
There was even a style called the poodlecut - whatever next?!
Other female stars of the 1950s include Brigitte Bardot, Doris Day and Sophie Loren.
