Princess Diana was a real fashion icon at this time and much
of what she is photographed in set the style for the
day.
Popular TV programs, such as Dynasty and Dallas set a trend
for big hair styles, glamorous looks and stunning "Joan
Collins" shoulder pads.
Pop stars such as Madonna, Toyah Wilcox, Adam Ant, Boy
George and Spandau Ballet set the fashion trends for teens to
follow.
The power suit was the thing, being worn by both men and
women and for the first time people started to really take note
of the brand name of the clothing they and others were
wearing. Designers like Donna Karan, Calvin Klein and
Ralph Lauren offered high street fashions for men and
women.
Clothing shapes changed as men and women started to wear
loose shirts and close fitting trousers.
Platform shoes were THE style of footwear to be seen in.
Models at this time are epitomised by Christie Brinkley who
was also the fact of the makeup label " Cover Girl ".
