1960's Hairstyles - the Swinging
Sixties
For many people, Audrey Hepburn (pictured) epitomises what
was great about the styles of the day - her well-known film,
Breakfast at Tiffany's was released in 1961.
You might also like to check for photos of the singer Lulu,
Petula Clark, Diana Rigg, Barbara Streisand, actress Elizabeth
Taylor and Doris Day.
Of course, the biggest hit of this decade was the Beatles -
many people believe that they shaped and even defined this era
and their hair was one of the first times that men started to
experiment with a different look or style.
And it was also the era of "free love" with hippies, of mods
and rockers and Elvis .
For hair fashion, it means plenty of short, perfectly styled
hair, epitomised by Twiggy and her miniskirts and elfin bob
.
There was also plenty of long curled hair and chignons-
natural styles were out.
And of course, hair stylist such as Vidal Sassoon really
helped to shape the sixties style too.
Top films for this decade:-
- Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
- Billy Liar
- Doctor Strangelove
- Goldfinger (James Bond)
- Midnight Cowboy
- To Kill a Mockingbird
