The roaring 20's is an era which you may associate with
the Great Gatsby (written by F Scott Fitzgerald) and many of
the styles with which we are now so familiar were first
introduced by the famous Coco Chanel.
It was during the twenties that the bob became a popular
hairstyle and the flapper dress was the height of
fashion.
One fashion icon who epitomised this look was Louise Brooks,
with her bobbed hair, worn with bangs or a fringe.
You can check out more photos of Louise at

Film Stars of the 20's
One well-known actress of the silent movies was Greta Garbo,
you can find images of Greta at a Garbo tribute
site.
There's more images of Greta and the 20's fashions that she

A popular male film star of this era was Clark Gable, who
went on to make the famous film, Gone with the Wind.

Interestingly, the Marc Jacobs New York fashion collection
for autumn / winter 2007 featured many of the chic,
head-turning fashions from this era.
Key Looks from this Era
To re-create looks from this era - dropped waist dresses or
straight dresses with a sash tied around the
hips.
Evening gowns with fringes or beading were popular -this
image shows a typical (rather luxurious) flapper dress.
Hair was worn short and straight, to complement straight
dresses with shoestring straps .
Fur was popular as an adornment - used as colllars or
cuffs.
This was also the height of the Art Deco look, so
popular now, with brooches still in fashion .
How to ReCreate the
Twenties Look
If you're looking to quickly put together a fancy dress
costume from this era - choose a simple, mid-length shift
